Background • Through continuing efforts of the Government ,NGO’s and private sectors Environmental Sanitation in Bangladesh is achieving commendable success. • To sustain the achievement an uniformed messages needed to be disseminated. Process • Organizing committee of National Sanitation Task Force initiatedthe process of formulating the Sanitation Messages.
• A working group was formed to develop the messages. • Draft messages was placed at the National Task Force. NTF then formed a committee headed by Deputy Secretary, LGD to finalizethe messages and formulate the implementation guideline. • After consecutive meetings a monitoring format and a Implementation guideline was formulated. • The Final messages, Monitoring Format and the Implementation Guideline was placed at the National Sanitation Task Force meeting and was approved. • Under process for Government notification
• Messages are in relation to five key behaviors
Safe disposal of human excreta
Wash your both hands thoroughly with water and soap before taking food and feeding children. Wash your both hands thoroughly with water and soap or ash after defecation and cleaning children's bottom Wash your both hands thoroughly with water and soap before serving food.
Keep your kitchen and households waste in a fixed place (pit). Keep clean the drain of tube well water to avoid stagnant water. Keep your courtyard clean and free from feces. Keep hat/bazarand public places clean.
Providing latrines in schools, madrashasor other educational institutions and particularly in girls' institution where there is no latrine. Providing latrines mosques or other worship places where there is no latrine. Providing latrines to the hardcore poor family if they do not have latrine. Placement of signboards or bill boards in different places of the union. Wall painting depicting some sanitation and hygiene related messages. Provision of providing platform for tube wells. Install sanitary latrines in the public places (Hat, Bazar, Bus Stand, Cinema hall etc.)
Keep your food covered. Do not eat stale or rotten food. Raw fruits should be washed with safe water before eating and raw vegetables should also be washed with safe water.
Keep your water pot clean. Keep drinking water in the pitcher. Keep your water pot covered. Always use safe water for drinking and cooking.
The format will be filled up by the Union Parishad Chairman by the help of the Dafader The format will then be sent to the UNO UNO will send a copy to the Executive Engineer of DPHE at District level. Xenwill then send a copy to the Sanitation Secretariat and a copy to the LGD (WS) |
